Right now, hydrants must either be connected to pipe element representing the pipe lateral or inserted directly into the water mains. Either way requires a junction and pipe split at this location. Hydrants can be connected to a lateral with a tap at the end, but this causes simulation errors and is not compatible. Having this approach would allow for hydrants not requiring a pipe split at the hydrant lateral which sometimes happens in GIS system. Alternative could add an option to associate a hydrant to a pipe (similar to customer meters).
