The discrete gas cavity model is used in other transient analysis software and is described in various texts such as Thorley. It captures variable wavespeed phenomenon due to changing air pocket volume. It has been observed that models which experience significant cavitation and show large unrealistic pressure spikes, may show much more stable and realistic results when using the Discrete Gas Cavity Model.
